  • Visitor's Center Improvement Project

The Zuni Visitor Center provides an important orientation experience and educational rest stop opportunity. The proposed site improvements will increase the flexibility of outdoor spaces to be used as a rest stop, as a vending location for local artists, for Center programming such as classes and tours, and as a community gathering space

for meetings and performances. The design also includes elements that will improve security, safety, and functionality. Proposed improvements include, but are not limited to:

    - Replacement of vendor shade structure and removal of existing wall
    - Decorative metal security fencing and gate
    - Moveable furniture
    - Pergola-type shade coverings
    - Coyote fence screening
    - Amphitheater seating with shade
    - Waffle gardens and water harvesting
    - New carport structure for Visitor Center vehicles
    - Monument sculpture and murals
    - New welcome sign

  • Zuni Labs

Zuni Labs is a co-creation center offering space, equipment, training, and business support to artisans in Zuni Pueblo. The project focuses on three distinct labs designed specifically for one aspect of the Zuni artistic and cultural tradition.

These are: Pottery/ceramics, Fetish, and Jewelry. Each lab contains a signature piece of equipment. These signature pieces are large capital intensive pieces of equipment difficult for new and emerging artists to access currently.

These pieces will exist inside their respective labs in addition to other tools and equipment necessary to complete projects within the labs specific discipline.

    Artist Collaborations

A collaborative effort between ZPMS and local Zuni artists, fostering growth by gathering artist input, securing grants, and enhancing their work within the ARTZ Co-op and ArtWalk to revitalize the local arts economy.

  • Best Yard Contest

In 2024, Zuni Pueblo MainStreet received gift certificates from a collaborative project with the Keep Zuni Beautiful program but were left wondering how to best use them. In an effort to get our residents involved in our MainStreet, ZPMS inaugurated the Best Yard on MainStreet (BYMS) Contest where residents cleaned and beautified their yards. In 2025, ZPMS themed the contest as a Christmas decorating contest and opened it to the entire Zuni community. ZPMS intends to keep the contest running into the future with participation from our residents and generous sponsors.

Elahkwa to all the residents who participate in the contest!

And a very special Elahkwa to our generous sponsors!

    Billboard Reconstruction

In 2024, heavy winds destroyed the only billboard on the Zuni reservation that welcomes visitors coming in from the east on Highway 53.

The vinyl billboard covering was collaboratively created by local artists from Zuni Pueblo ArtWalk over 10 years ago. Prior to this, the original billboard was constructed of wood and created by local business owners at that time.

ZPMS is seeking help from the public to help us reconstruct or replace the billboard! The first step in our efforts is to identify the new stakeholders who will assist with the project. Help us by donating to the reconstruction of the billboard!

  • ZPMS Board Capacity Building

ZPMS continuously works with NMMS technical specialists to strengthen our board capacity, board membership, and increase our volunteer community. As an nationally accredited program, ZPMS receives technical service at no charge from New Mexico MainStreet.
